Moving is rough, whether moving a business or from one apartment to another. Preparation needs to be started well in advance. Boxes must be gathered and marked. When you arrive at the destination you will not remember in which room each box belongs, without it being carefully written down on the boxes and on a master sheet. Color coding cartons is a good idea. And don’t forget to contact the company a few days before the move to make sure both of you and the company are on the same page.
If you need wardrobe boxes or wrapping material the company should supply these at a reasonable cost. Make sure each box is packed to the top, so as not to rattle, especially items like dishes. Use wrapping or newspaper to make sure each box is completely filled with either objects or packing material. Heavy items go in before the lighter ones. Remember smaller cartons for heavier items. If you still read books other than what is read on the internet, pack the books flat or spine downwards.
Items you need right away should be carried by you personally. Personal affairs such as banking, should be taken care of before the move. The company charges you for every item, so if you own decent things that you do not need, be a sport and donate them to the needy. Consume your perishables and basically do not add to the weight and cost of the move by transporting food. These are items to be restocked at the new place of residence.
Valuable and sentimental items that cannot be replaced should be personally transported. The only picture remaining of a loved one should not go in a carton or box. Remember anything done the last minute will not be done right. Planning is key to moving comfortably. Keep an eye on the movers to make sure they have everything on the truck, they are not perfect.
